PREVENTION OF BULLYING -

Identification, Prevention and Elimination

 

Effective as of 23 August 2007

Bullying is
  • the misuse of power, over a long period of time, by one person or a group of persons, to dominate or intimidate others through physical, verbal or psychological means. Bullying can impact on all members of the community - staff, students and parents.
Bullying results
  • in loss of self esteem, dignity and respect for the individual concerned and it creates discord within the community. There are negative consequences for the person being bullied, the person bullying and people who witness the bullying. While behaviour may be understood, it is never acceptable at this school.
The staff at St Joseph's Primary School will act promptly and firmly to address bullying behaviour as soon as it is identified and to continually work to prevent bullying occuring. This policy include specific steps as outlined in the Bullying Behaviour Procedures and Guidelines for the following situations:
  • identifying and reporting bullying
  • educating members of the school community about the impact of bullying and their responsibilities to prevent and address bullying when it occurs.
  • School response to and management of mild, moderate and severe bullying

 

POLICY STATEMENT

It is the right of all members of St Joseph's to be able to share a safe and secure environment at school. Staff, parents and students have a responsibility to ensure that all have an opportunity to grow, develop and learn in a safe and happy school environment.
